PE Environmental follows the NCEES specification effective April 2026: 80 questions across 6 knowledge areas. Water is still the largest by a wide margin at 19–29 questions — roughly a third of the exam — with Air and Site Assessment and Remediation at 13–20 each. The April 2026 specification makes Sustainability its own knowledge area (7–11 questions), covering resource conservation and resilience.
